This is not a political blog. The theme of this blog is social media and writing. But as Miss Apps is prone to say, “All things are Political, it’s just that most of us fail to see the connections.”
Today’s post on Social Media offers a very clear connection. Photobucket “has been licensed as the Official 2009 U.S. Presidential Inaugural Book.” Anyone can participate. People attending the inagruation, or hosting events in their hometowns are invited to upload their photos to the Official Inaugural Book Project.
Social media may seem to some, like a silly something to play with on Facebook when nothing good is on T.V. But it can be so much more. We are embarking on a new era, developing new ways to record and share our history.
Those of us who are old enough, all remember where we were when we heard the news about the death of JFK. We remember where we were when the planes hit on 911.
Video archives exist for these events, and other extraordinary moments in our shared experience, but never before have those archives been created by the masses in one coordinated project, available for all to see and contribute to in real time.
This is History in the making folks, and Miss Applesassy for one, is proud to be a part of it.
