Social Networking and Community Building
Today Miss Applesassy is off to The Big Apple. Her corset is a bit uncomfortable as she contemplates the traffic in Manhattan, but push forth she must.
Arianna Huffington is hosting a discussion at the 92nd St. Y with Ericka Jong, Nora Ephron, Barbara Ehrenreich, Trey Ellis and Paul Rieckhoff on Wednesday, and Miss Apps is eager to hear what they have to say.
Events like this allow a writer to keep her fingers on the pulse of the people. That’s important. Miss Apps will never forget the time she met Gloria Steinem and had the chance to ask her for a tidbit of writing advice.
“You can’t write in a vacuum.” The Famed Feminist said. “You have to get out there, and see whats going on.”
Sage words indeed.
Think about the blogs you bookmark, the ones you read everyday. Are they part of a larger community? If so, how do they network? Have those relationships helped build their readership? How did they build those relationships?
And most importantly, what are you doing to build yours?
