There are blogs, and there are B-L-O-G-S!

Miss Applesassy is delighted to introduce you to some of her favorite friends on interweb.  They represent the best of the many diverse and wide ranging communities on your computer:

blogforprofit1 Blog For Profit- Grant Griffiths began blogging to promote his law practice, but soon learned the web offered an attractive full time career.  His blog offers much good advice on web publishing, and unlike his attorney services, the advice on his blog is free. Grants blog is great, and he is just an all around nice guy.

brian-williams The Brian Williams Tie Report- Brian Williams is the anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News.  Nance is a high school English teacher who uses The Brian Williams Tie Report to show, not tell, her students how to write.  The interweb is the tool that brings them together: Students, teacher, and newsman.  Her students are not only aware and engaged in the news of the day, but learning to write about it as well.  Nance is a genius.

chris-brogan Chris Brogan- A Social Networking Expert and webbernet Guru with the mind of a philosopher and the heart of a teddy bear.   Chris likes to help people succeed, and spends his days opining on new and innovative ways for them to use web tools to do just that.

copyblogger Copyblogger- Copyblogger was founded in 2006 by Brian Clark. Brian is a new media writer/producer, entrepreneur, and recovering attorney.  Brian uses his blog to teach online marketing techniques that involve building, monetizing, and occasionally selling online media properties.  Copyblogger has over 50,000 subscribers and over 130,000 unique visitors each month.

huffpo-logo

The Huffington Post- I write for HuffPo.  So sue me…I’m biased.

poewar Poe War- formerly known as The Writers Resource Center is the blog of technical writer John Hewitt.  This blog provides a wealth of information for writers.  Really.  The depth of his content is overwhelming.  Go. Read it.  Now.

problogger Problogger-Darren Rowse is a full time Blogger making a living from his blogs like Digital Photography School and TwiTip.  He uses the Problogger site to teach other bloggers how to add income streams to their blogs.

parrish Stephen Parrish- Stephen is a writer.  It is his fate, he has no choice, even though he sometimes wishes he could be something else.

remarkablogger-logo1

Remarkablogger- Michale Martine provides daily tips on the technical and social sides of the blogosphere.  His posts always inspire new ideas and seek solutions from a PR and Marketing perspective.

querry-sharkQuery Shark- The current blog of lit agent Janet Reid.  Wannabe writers send their query letters to the shark for public critique, which more often than not, turns into a brutal bloodletting.  The Shark tank is no place for the faint of heart, but is a remarkable place to learn the craft of writing.

miss-snark Miss Snark- the former blog of literary agent Janet Reid.  Although no longer active, if you are a writer, the “Snarkives” are worth reading from beginning to end, at least fifty times.

trubys-blockbuster

Truby Studios- John Truby teaches Hollywood screenwriters how to write Blockbuster scripts.  For lessons on story structure, there is no better place to learn.

jill_thumbnail Writes Like She Talks with Jill Zimon-  Jill “dreamed of being a philanthropist until she realized she was at least $5 million short.”  She now puts her focus on web based journalism.  Part activist, part reporter, and part philosopher, she is coming round the mountain driving three white horses at top speed.  Jill is a gal who is going places and knows how to harness the webbernet to get there.  Yee-Haw!

womens-media-centerThe Women’s Media Center- The Women’s Media Center makes women visible and powerful in the media. They do this in three ways: through media advocacy campaigns; by creating new media sources written and produced by women; and by training women to participate directly in media.  The Women’s Media Center was founded in 2005 as a non-profit progressive women’s media organization by writers/activists Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan, and Gloria Steinem. Women hold less than 3% of decision-making “clout” positions in media, they also earned only 25% of all new media jobs created from 1990 -2005, despite constituting 65% of all undergraduate and graduate journalism and mass communications students. The WMC is working to change that, and therefore, have my support.  (Besides, their journalism rocks.  If women have to work twice as hard and be three times as qualified to earn half as much, these are gals at the ones at the top of the game.)
